Robbery at SBI Maheshtala branch, thieves escape with valuables, CCTV footage cut

A robbery took place at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Maheshtala, Bata Mor, discovered early this morning when the security guard arrived to open the bank. Upon entering, the guard found the locker room door broken, and the contents of the lockers were missing. The thieves also cut the CCTV wires, disabling the cameras in the area, and removed the DVRs, preventing immediate access to footage. At the time of the discovery, the bank manager had not yet arrived, and the police were contacted shortly after.

The incident is believed to have occurred during the weekend, as the bank had been closed on Saturday, the fourth Saturday of the month, as per its usual schedule. The locker room had been securely locked by the security guard on Friday evening. The break-in was uncovered when the bank reopened on Monday morning, after the two-day closure. Following the discovery, local police arrived at the scene and began their investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from other areas of the bank to assist with the inquiry.

Customers who arrived at the bank upon hearing the news were not allowed to enter. The authorities confirmed that a robbery had taken place, but did not provide detailed information regarding the security of the public lockers. One customer reported, “Initially, the bank told us the investigation would be completed and then we would be informed. Now, we know the public lockers are secure, as a notice has been posted.” Customers were instructed to return the following day for fingerprint verification.

As of now, the exact amount of the stolen goods has not been disclosed. The police have not reported any arrests or identified any suspects. The police superintendent visited the scene to oversee the investigation, which is still in progress. The bank has pledged to review its security protocols and improve its measures to prevent similar incidents. The investigation continues, with authorities seeking to gather further evidence and identify the perpetrators.
