Potato traders to go on strike if Bengal doesn’t allow selling to other states
A five-year-old girl was found raped and murdered in the Gurdap area of Hooghly district on the evening of November 24. The girl’s father had left the house to buy meat for her after she had expressed a desire to eat it. He was away for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. When he returned, he found his daughter missing and immediately began searching for her in the nearby area. After a brief search, he discovered the girl’s body in a neighbor’s house, wrapped in a mosquito net.
Local police were contacted after the girl’s body was found, and she was taken to Dhaniakhali Hospital. The attending doctors confirmed her death, and signs of severe physical trauma were observed on the body. Following the discovery, villagers confronted the accused, a young man living in the same locality. They beat him before the police arrived. The suspect was later taken to Chuchura Hospital for treatment.
Based on the complaint filed by the girl’s family, the police arrested the accused. The suspect is facing charges of rape and murder. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had a history of troubling behavior, including reports of inappropriate acts with livestock. However, no formal legal action had been taken against him prior to this incident. Police are continuing to investigate his background and the events leading up to the crime.
Hooghly district police officials, including Superintendent Kamnashish Sen and Additional Superintendent Kalyan Sarkar, visited the crime scene and spoke with the victim’s family and local residents. The investigation has been assigned to the Circle Inspector of Dhaniakhali. The police have stated that a postmortem examination will be conducted at Chuchura District Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities collecting evidence from the scene and questioning potential witnesses.
