Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
Two friends lost their lives in a road accident late Saturday night in the Krishnaganj area of the Chanchal-Samsi bypass road in Malda. The accident occurred around 11 pm as the victims, identified as Sanu Ali (19) and Sajid Ali (21), were returning home after attending an event in Sripur.
According to police and family sources, Sanu hailed from Basantpur Rajatola under Motiharpur Gram Panchayat, while Sajid was a resident of Lagayo Damapir village. The collision, reportedly caused by a goods vehicle, was so severe that both teenagers died on the spot. Their untimely demise has plunged their communities into grief.
On Sunday morning, the police transported the bodies from Chanchal Super Specialty Hospital to Malda Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. The Chanchal police station has launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved and ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
The tragedy has reignited concerns over road safety on the Chanchal-Samsi bypass, which has seen three fatalities and several injuries this month alone. Earlier, a civic volunteer, Ranu Khatun, also lost her life in a similar accident, and approximately eight others have been injured in recent mishaps.
