SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
A minor girl from Bhimpur, Nadia, was found murdered on Sunday morning after being missing for several days. The girl, who went missing on November 21, was last seen with her boyfriend, Farooq Mondal, a resident of Narayanpur. On the day of her disappearance, her grandfather, Noor Hossain, filed a missing person’s report and began searching for her at relatives' homes and throughout the area. Despite these efforts, the girl’s whereabouts remained unknown until Mondal’s confession.
According to police reports, Farooq Mondal, 22, was detained on Saturday night after investigators learned about the relationship between him and the missing girl. During questioning, Mondal confessed to strangling the minor and burying her body in Narayanpur village. "I killed her by strangulation and buried her body in the ground," Mondal reportedly told the police. He was arrested following his admission, and authorities focused on locating the body.
The police, acting on Mondal’s statement, secured the location where he claimed to have buried the body. On Sunday morning, a team led by a magistrate exhumed the body. The remains were sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Local police have stationed personnel around the area to prevent any interference with the ongoing investigation. The site remains under strict surveillance as the investigation continues.
While police are still determining the motive behind the crime, they have noted that the couple had been seen together frequently before the girl went missing. Mondal’s arrest has led authorities to believe the incident occurred on the same day the girl disappeared. Investigators are working to gather further details about the events leading up to the murder and the relationship between the accused and the victim.
