Gurudev arrested for rape in Bengal's Dubrajpur, claims woman's consent after husband left

A man, identified as a self-proclaimed 'Gurudev,' was arrested for raping a woman in Dubrajpur, Birbhum, under the pretext of offering spiritual initiation. The incident took place in the woman's home in the Yashpur Panchayat area, where the accused had been invited for an initiation ceremony. According to the police, the woman's husband was present at the start of the session but left the house after a while. The accused, taking advantage of the situation, allegedly committed the assault while the woman was alone at home.

The accused, who has been conducting spiritual sessions for several years in the area, later confessed to the crime when questioned by the police. He admitted, "Yes, I did it," in response to the rape charges. However, he insisted that the act was consensual, asserting that nothing was forced upon the woman. He claimed that after the initiation session began, the woman’s husband stepped outside, leaving the woman alone with him. The accused stated that the assault took place during this period.

The police were informed of the incident on Friday night and acted swiftly. Within an hour of the complaint being filed, the accused was arrested. He was presented before the Dubrajpur court on Saturday. The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as the inquiry progresses.
