TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has leveled serious accusations against the West Bengal police, claiming that a section of the force is working for the CPM and deliberately sabotaging the state government. Ghosh’s remarks were made during a protest rally in Nandigram, organized by the TMC following the recent assault on party block president Bappaditya Ghosh. The protest highlighted concerns about the police’s handling of the incident and their alleged political biases.
Ghosh claimed that many police officers, particularly those with previous affiliations to the CPM, are covertly undermining the TMC government by working in the interests of the opposition. He alleged that these officers are engaged in a campaign to damage the government from within the police force. "Four sides are raising questions: why isn’t the police doing this or that? A majority of them are former CPM members, and they secretly want the government to fail. They are sabotaging from within," Ghosh stated during the protest. He further claimed that some officers have now aligned themselves with the BJP, suggesting a deeper political conspiracy.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also weighed in on the matter, echoing concerns about the police’s conduct and accusing a section of the force of engaging in corrupt practices. Mamata stated, “Some in the police are taking money and committing theft,” accusing these officers of being involved in misconduct that damages the government’s credibility. The Chief Minister expressed frustration over the police’s failure to act in key situations and highlighted the growing concerns about the integrity of the force.
Ghosh’s comments also included a direct warning to police officers he believes are working against the TMC government. “If you’re working against the government, pack your bags. You will be sent to Sundarbans or Cooch Behar, not anywhere close by,” he said. The remarks have sparked sharp reactions from opposition parties, particularly the BJP. BJP leader Sajal Ghosh criticized the statement as promoting a "threat culture," while CPM leader Shatarup Ghosh questioned the police’s loyalty, suggesting that many officers are loyal to the TMC rather than the law.
