Kunal Ghosh, the spokesperson for Trinamool Congress (TMC), has predicted that his party will secure more than 250 seats in the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections. Ghosh made this statement at a protest rally in Nandigram on Thursday, saying, “In 2026, Mamata Banerjee will become the Chief Minister again with more than 250 seats.” His comments came more than a year before the elections, as TMC prepares for its campaign.
The rally was organized in response to the assault of TMC block president Bappaditya Gorg, who was attacked following the BJP’s victory in the cooperative elections in Nandigram. Gorg was allegedly assaulted by individuals after the BJP’s win. Alongside Ghosh, TMC district president Asit Bandopadhyay, TMC leader Sheikh Sufian, and Gorg himself participated in the rally. The event was held to condemn the attack and to show support for Gorg.
During the rally, Ghosh took the opportunity to criticize the BJP and certain sections of the police and administration. He accused a group of officials of supporting CPI(M) and BJP, alleging that these individuals were working against the state government. Ghosh stated that these officials were attempting to “malign the government from within” and should be identified and held accountable for their actions.
Ghosh also warned that any officials continuing to support the opposition would face possible transfers to less favorable locations. He mentioned areas such as Sundarbans and Cooch Behar as potential destinations for these officials. Ghosh further stated that TMC would take actions, including protests, if no steps were taken by the government to address these alleged activities within the administration.
