In a state-wide crackdown, West Bengal police have arrested 1,120 individuals since November 18. This includes 342 wanted criminals, with arrests conducted in Baruipur, Diamond Harbour, Basirhat, Bangaon, Barrackpore, Howrah, Chandannagar, and Birbhum. The operation targeted individuals with criminal backgrounds and those involved in illegal activities, officials confirmed.
Police seized 74 illegal firearms, 73 live cartridges, and 15 bombs as part of the raids. Additionally, a massive haul of narcotics was recovered, including 31,789 kilograms of cannabis, 97 kilograms of heroin, and 42.63 kilograms of brown sugar. Officials stated that these seizures indicate the presence of organized networks involved in arms smuggling and drug trafficking across the state.
The crackdown was launched in response to a recent surge in criminal activities, including an assassination attempt on a political representative. The arrests and seizures are part of a coordinated operation to disrupt criminal networks and ensure public safety. Raids were conducted simultaneously in multiple locations to maximize effectiveness, authorities reported.
In addition to weapons and narcotics, the police also confiscated other items used in illegal activities, including forged documents and communication devices. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the recovered items and identify any larger criminal syndicates. Officials have indicated that this operation is part of a sustained effort to maintain law and order and will continue in the coming days.
