Seven dead, over 25 injured as passenger bus overturns in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh

A passenger bus traveling from Kolkata to Patna met with a tragic accident this morning in Gorhar, a village in the Barkattha block of Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand. The incident occurred at approximately 7 AM when the bus, with registration number WB 76A1548, lost control and overturned while navigating an incomplete section of road under construction. Sources reported that the construction company working on the road had left a gap in the stretch, which contributed to the loss of control by the bus. The bus, traveling on a downhill slope, plunged into a pit beside the road.

The crash resulted in the death of seven passengers, while over 25 others sustained injuries, including multiple serious ones. Most of the victims were women. Local residents, hearing loud cries for help, rushed to the scene to assist in pulling out the injured from the wreckage. Police teams from Gorhar and Barkattha police stations arrived shortly after and began coordinating the rescue operations. Emergency medical teams reached the site quickly and provided first aid to the injured before transferring them to nearby hospitals. Some of the more seriously injured passengers were sent to Hazaribagh Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.

According to police officials, the rescue operation was hampered by the position of the overturned bus, which blocked the road for several hours. Police and rescue teams had to use heavy machinery to clear the wreckage. Investigators have confirmed that the gap in the unfinished road was a key factor in the bus losing control, and they are looking into the quality and safety measures employed by the road construction company.

Authorities have stated that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem, and a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. The local administration is also reviewing the status of road safety and the state of the unfinished construction work. The bus was operated by a private company and was on its regular route between Kolkata and Patna when the accident took place.

Senior police officers, including DSP Ajit Kumar Vimal and Gorhar Police Station In-Charge, reached the site shortly after the incident was reported. They oversaw the rescue operations and ensured that injured passengers received medical attention as quickly as possible. The investigation will continue, with authorities looking into potential negligence by the road construction company and the bus operator.
