Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
Satyajit Bandopadhyay, the Vice Chairman of Uttar Barrackpore Municipal Corporation, was found dead at his residence three days ago, with a two-and-a-half-page suicide note recovered from the scene. The note implicated three individuals—Jayashree Das, Subhajit Biswas (also known as Santu), and Shukla Biswas—in a blackmail and extortion scheme. According to police reports, Bandopadhyay had been threatened with the release of compromising videos unless he paid large sums of money. The note stated that the accused had been showing him videos on his mobile phone and demanded money, threatening to make the footage public if he refused.
Following the discovery, the Noadapara police detained and later arrested Jayashree Das, Subhajit Biswas, and Shukla Biswas in connection with the case. The police tracked them down to Barakpur’s Dighirpara area, where they were taken into custody. Investigations revealed that Bandopadhyay had been coerced into paying the extortionists repeatedly, leading to significant debt. Authorities are now working to verify the full scale of the financial transactions and the nature of the extortion.
The suicide note further instructed the police to arrest the individuals involved in the extortion and settle the outstanding loans Bandopadhyay had accrued. Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and that further arrests could be made as they continue to probe the extent of the extortion network. The case is currently under investigation by local authorities, with the police focusing on identifying any additional individuals involved in the operation.
