In response to the increasing concerns over criminal activities in the city, Kolkata Police has launched an intensified naka checking drive following the Kasba incident. Lalbazar, the police headquarters, has instructed all divisional Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and station officers to conduct comprehensive checks across the city. The drive is aimed at addressing all kinds of crime, including illegal arms trafficking, drug smuggling, and other illicit activities, particularly at critical entry and exit points, as well as in sensitive areas identified as high-risk for criminal behavior.
The naka checking will be conducted in two shifts each day. The first shift will run from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and the second shift will be from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM. During these hours, all vehicles entering the city will undergo thorough inspections. Additionally, individuals entering the city will be required to present identification documents. If any person lacks valid identification, they will be questioned about their purpose for being in the city. The operation will not only target vehicles but will also focus on identifying suspicious individuals and preventing any criminal activities, including the transport of illegal goods.
The entire operation will be closely monitored from the Lalbazar control room to ensure coordination and effectiveness. Naka checking will cover key routes, cross-points, and sensitive zones, allowing the police to intercept any criminal activities at major entry and exit points. Police stations across various parts of the city have already initiated the process, and the operations are expected to continue over the coming days. This proactive initiative is a part of Kolkata Police’s broader strategy to combat all forms of crime and ensure the safety and security of the city's residents.
