Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
A WhatsApp chat allegedly involving BJP leader Abhijit Das has sparked controversy within the party. The chat, which has not been verified, features a video of senior BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty addressing party workers, accompanied by remarks critical of Mithun's statements. The chat references Mithun's appeal for voter engagement, with Das reportedly commenting, “What he (Mithun) said in this video is reminiscent of pre-election claims made by many leaders who later disappeared.”
The video in question is from a November 5 BJP meeting where Mithun Chakraborty urged members to strengthen grassroots connections. He said, “I urge everyone to take BJP membership and vote. We will stand in front and take the blows, but you must vote. Party workers must stop sitting idle in offices and go door-to-door to spread awareness.”
Abhijit Das, who was the BJP’s candidate from Diamond Harbour in the last Lok Sabha elections, had faced a decisive defeat. Following the elections, a BJP fact-finding team visiting the area encountered protests, which some within the party alleged were orchestrated by Das. This incident resulted in a show-cause notice being issued to him by the BJP.
In the current controversy, Das reportedly made additional remarks in the chat, stating, “Some people only came to Diamond Harbour for media attention.” The remarks have added to internal tensions within the BJP, with no statement yet issued by the party leadership regarding the viral chat or its implications.
