SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Several luxury residential complexes in New Town, Kolkata, were targeted by thieves who stole shoes from multiple flats. The affected complexes included both government-managed and private high-rise housing societies. The stolen items consisted exclusively of shoes, including expensive, branded footwear, while no cash, jewelry, or other valuables were reported missing.
The thefts occurred during the day, with the culprits reportedly targeting multiple floors within the same complexes. Despite the presence of 48 CCTV cameras installed across the premises and private security personnel assigned to patrol the areas, the thieves managed to carry out the thefts without being detected. The stolen shoes were not confined to a particular brand or style, but included high-end and designer footwear, leading residents to question the method behind the thefts.
Local police have confirmed the initiation of an investigation into the incidents. CCTV footage from the residential complexes is being reviewed, and investigators are analyzing the images to identify the suspects. The police are also interviewing residents and security staff, as well as reviewing any other potential leads. No arrests have been made as of now, and authorities are continuing their inquiries.
The incidents took place in well-known areas of New Town, and affected residents have expressed their concern over the security lapses. In addition to the CCTV cameras, private security guards were stationed at each complex, leading to questions regarding how the thefts were carried out despite the visible security measures. Some residents believe the thieves may have gained access by bypassing the guards or using familiar routes within the complex. The police are also considering the possibility of the thieves being aware of the building layouts, with investigations focusing on whether any inside knowledge was involved.
