Son-in-law arrested for assaulting wife and mother-in-law over custody dispute; Girlfriend attacked by locals

Arindam Ghosh, a resident of Belghoria, was arrested on Monday by Rahra Police for allegedly assaulting his wife, Chumki Das, and her mother in Khardah’s Kalyannagar area. The arrest followed a violent altercation that erupted when Arindam attempted to take custody of his daughter from his estranged wife. The couple, married in 2014, separated after Arindam began a relationship with another woman. Since the separation, Arindam has been seeking to regain custody of their daughter, despite ongoing disputes with Chumki.

On the day of the incident, Arindam arrived at Chumki’s residence with his girlfriend and tried to take their daughter. Chumki and her mother intervened to prevent this, leading to a physical confrontation. It is alleged that during the altercation, Arindam physically assaulted both women. The situation quickly escalated when local residents witnessed the violence. In an act of retaliation, a group of women from the area reportedly attacked Arindam’s girlfriend, further intensifying the tension.

The Rahra Police were alerted to the situation and arrived promptly at the scene. Arindam was taken into custody for his alleged role in assaulting his wife and mother-in-law. Police are also investigating the actions of the local women involved in the attack on Arindam’s girlfriend. The authorities are looking into charges of public disturbance, assault, and other related offenses.
