Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
A violent clash took place in Nanur, West Bengal, on Sunday, involving supporters of TMC district president Anubrata Mondal and rival Kajal Sheikh. The incident occurred at a tea stall in Bahiri, Nanur, where a man, allegedly a supporter of Mondal, was attacked by individuals believed to be aligned with Sheikh’s group. The attack quickly escalated into a larger brawl, with several others, including Mondal's supporters, injured during the altercation.
The injured were promptly taken to local hospitals, where their condition is reported to be stable. While the exact number of injured remains unclear, sources indicate that multiple people were hurt in the confrontation. No arrests have been made so far, and authorities are yet to release further details about the incident. The police have launched an investigation, but no formal statements have been issued regarding potential suspects or motives.
This clash follows a recent core committee meeting within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which reportedly resulted in a shift in the balance of power within the party. According to sources, Mondal’s influence within the district has been somewhat reduced, providing an opportunity for Kajal Sheikh’s faction to gain ground. Sheikh’s supporters have reportedly become more vocal in asserting their position following these developments.
The Panchayat head of Bahiri, who is associated with Sheikh’s faction, described the incident as a “family dispute” that escalated into a physical altercation. However, Mondal’s supporters contend that the attack was a planned assault aimed at weakening their position. TMC leader Jamshad Ali Khan, a close associate of Mondal, called for legal action against those responsible for the violence, urging the administration to take appropriate measures.
