Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
A fire broke out at a wedding pandal inside Howrah House, located on Foreshore Road, Howrah, on Sunday evening. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM when a worker spotted sparks and alerted those nearby. The flames quickly spread due to the presence of flammable materials inside the pandal. Initial efforts by local residents to control the fire using water-filled buckets and containers were unsuccessful.
The fire intensified rapidly, fueled by strong winds and the proximity of the Hooghly River, causing the flames to engulf the entire pandal. Fire engines from the Howrah fire station arrived on the scene shortly after the fire was reported, with two fire engines deployed to control the blaze. Firefighters worked for hours to contain the flames, but the fire had not yet been fully extinguished by the time of the report. The fire department continues to assess the situation.
No casualties or injuries were reported, as the wedding ceremony had not yet begun. The pandal, which was set up for the wedding, was completely destroyed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, with a focus on potential electrical faults or other factors. The area surrounding the venue was cleared for safety, and fire personnel remain on-site for precautionary measures.
