A financial irregularity has surfaced in South Dinajpur district, where funds meant for students under the “Yuvaer Swapno” project were misappropriated. The scheme, designed to provide tablets to students, has come under scrutiny after it was revealed that six students from Arcea Magurpur High School in Tapan block had their tablet funds diverted to unknown bank accounts. The issue was discovered after one student noticed that the funds had not been deposited into their account following the school’s reopening after the Puja holidays.
Upon investigation, school authorities found that funds for six students were missing. A deeper inquiry at the bank revealed that the students’ original bank account details had been altered, and the money had been transferred to unfamiliar accounts. The altered accounts, while linked to different bank branches, showed addresses corresponding to Chopra block in North Dinajpur district, a detail that raised concerns about the authenticity of the transactions.
In response to the irregularity, the school authorities promptly filed a written complaint with the local Cyber Crime Police. The complaint outlined that the students’ funds had been redirected to accounts that were not connected to them. According to the school, the financial mishap affects six out of the 102 students who were expected to receive tablets under the project. While 96 students had received their funds, the remaining six were left out due to the unauthorized transfers.
The South Dinajpur Cyber Crime Police, after receiving the complaint, initiated an investigation into the matter. The focus of the investigation is to identify the individuals responsible for altering the students' account information and rerouting the funds. Authorities are also looking into whether the tampered bank accounts were set up with fraudulent information. The police are reviewing transaction histories to track the flow of money and determine the extent of the scam.
