Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
A robbery occurred in the Jyangra area of Bidhannagar, where thieves broke into the residence of Sandip Kumar Gupta and stole valuables worth ₹30-35 lakh. The family was away from the house for several days, providing an opportunity for the criminals to target the property. Gupta, along with his wife and two children, left for Shishu Mangal Hospital on Tuesday for a medical check-up, and later visited his sister’s house in Ruby. Afterward, he traveled to his in-laws' home in Kakinada, returning on Sunday morning after being notified by neighbors of the break-in.
Upon his return, Gupta found the house in disarray. Six locks had been broken—three on the ground floor and three on the second floor. The burglars had broken into an almirah, where they stole approximately 300 grams of gold, silver, and diamond jewelry. Gupta estimated the stolen items’ total value to be between ₹30 lakh and ₹35 lakh. The house had been left vacant for several days, which may have allowed the thieves to plan the robbery without any immediate intervention from the residents.
The house, located in a densely populated residential area, was not equipped with any apparent security alarms or cameras, raising concerns among local residents about the neighborhood’s safety measures. Despite the boldness of the crime, there were no signs of forced entry beyond the broken locks. This has prompted questions about the effectiveness of security systems and the ease with which the robbery was executed during the day. Several neighbors have expressed their unease over the incident, noting that such thefts rarely occur in this area.
A key witness, local resident Somnath Dutta, reported seeing a middle-aged man exiting the Gupta household early on Sunday morning. Dutta, who had woken up around 4:30 AM, noticed the suspect leave the premises and, upon seeing Dutta, the man fled. This incident raised immediate suspicions, as Dutta described the man as acting nervously. Following the break-in, the police launched an investigation, speaking to neighbors and collecting CCTV footage from surrounding areas. Authorities are working to piece together the timeline of the robbery and identify potential suspects involved in the crime. They are also exploring the possibility that more than one person was involved, given the scale of the break-in and the number of locks that were tampered with.
