Kusum Kumar Dwivedi, a close associate of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been inducted into the Observer Committee of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). The decision was finalized during CAB's Apex Council meeting on Saturday, which saw the formation of various sub-committees. Dwivedi’s association with CAB gained prominence after her representation of the Police Athletic Club at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 30. His inclusion marks a significant addition to CAB’s administrative framework.
The Observer Committee, which Dwivedi now joins, is responsible for monitoring CAB's operations and ensuring compliance with its policies. CAB is preparing for its next elections in 2025, where significant leadership changes are anticipated as the tenures of several top officials are set to end. The association is expected to restructure its management to align with upcoming cricketing commitments and governance needs.
The appointment comes as Bengal cricket gears up for critical upcoming events. India, along with Sri Lanka, will host the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, with most matches scheduled on Indian soil. Bengal’s cricket administration, including CAB, is likely to play an essential role in organizing and supporting matches during this tournament. With India defending its championship title, CAB is focusing on maintaining efficiency and readiness for the event.
