Mother and daughter killed in hit-and-run accident in Malda; Car flees scene

A fatal hit-and-run accident in Malda's Gazole area claimed the lives of a mother and daughter. The incident took place around 9:30 AM on the 12th National Highway near Masaldighi. The victims, Sudipta Roy Chowdhury (45) and her daughter Sayani Roy Chowdhury (22), were traveling on a motorcycle with a relative when they were struck by a car. The collision occurred as they were returning home from Shyamnagar.

The force of the crash threw the mother and daughter off the motorcycle. Sudipta died instantly at the scene from severe injuries. Sayani, critically injured, was taken to a nearby hospital but passed away on the way. The car responsible for the accident fled the scene immediately after the crash. Authorities have launched a search operation to track down the vehicle and the driver involved.

According to police reports, the victims were returning home after visiting a relative from Siliguri. The family was traveling in a car provided by the relative and had planned to stop for a snack before the tragic accident occurred. The police have sent the bodies for postmortem and are examining the site of the crash for any potential evidence. Investigations are underway, but no arrests or leads regarding the car's identity have been disclosed yet. The authorities are urging witnesses to come forward to assist in the probe.
