Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor Sushant Ghosh survived a shooting attempt on Friday evening outside his residence in the Kasba area. While speaking with locals, two assailants on a scooter approached Ghosh, and one of them attempted to shoot him. However, the weapon misfired twice, failing to discharge during the attack. The assailants then attempted to flee the scene, but Ghosh’s supporters managed to capture the attacker, who was handed over to the police after being beaten.
Kolkata Police have arrested one individual in connection with the incident. The arrested person is a resident of another state, and authorities are investigating the possible involvement of a shooter from Bihar. The police have stated that the attack might have been part of a conspiracy orchestrated by a local individual, who, according to preliminary findings, contacted an acquaintance in Bihar to arrange the attack. The arrested suspect is believed to have facilitated the hiring of the shooter, though the exact motive for the attack is still under investigation.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma visited the scene shortly after the incident. Verma assured that the police were fully committed to resolving the case and emphasized that the investigation would be thorough. The involvement of the Bihar-based shooter has prompted the police to explore the possibility of an external connection in the incident. Police sources have revealed that the shooter’s identity is still being investigated, and further details about his background are being gathered.
In light of the seriousness of the incident, the Intelligence Department of Kolkata Police has taken over the investigation. The department is working closely with local police to identify any other individuals who may be connected to the attack or the conspiracy. The police have also mentioned that they are looking into whether the attack on Ghosh was related to his political activities. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have stated that further arrests may follow as they continue to gather more information.
