Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
A wedding was nearly derailed when a groom’s party, traveling from Mumbai to Guwahati, missed their connecting train at Howrah Station due to a delay. The group of 35, including elderly members and children, had boarded the Geetanjali Express, which was supposed to take them to Howrah. From there, they were to transfer to the Saraighat Express for the next leg of their journey. However, the Geetanjali Express was delayed by more than three hours, causing them to arrive in Howrah too late to catch the Saraighat Express.
With time running out and the Saraighat Express set to leave, the groom’s party faced the grim prospect of missing their wedding entirely. The situation was made more urgent as many of the passengers were elderly and children, making it physically difficult to catch the train quickly. The group had no alternative transportation options, and any further delay would jeopardize their wedding plans.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Howrah Station officials stepped in to prevent further complications. The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) and Senior Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer (DCM) of Howrah acted swiftly by creating a special corridor for the Saraighat Express to remain at the platform beyond its scheduled departure time. This decision allowed the groom’s party to board the train with minimal delay. Additionally, the driver of the Geetanjali Express was instructed to reverse the train back to Howrah Station, giving the passengers an opportunity to disembark and board the Saraighat Express.
Thanks to these timely interventions, the groom’s party successfully caught the Saraighat Express and continued their journey to the wedding destination. The swift action by railway officials prevented a wedding catastrophe and ensured that the groom and his party reached their destination on time.
