Noida residents will face a 14-hour power outage on Saturday, November 16, as Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) undertakes crucial maintenance at the Sector 124 substation. The outage is scheduled from 10 AM to midnight and will impact several key areas in Noida. This planned disruption is part of UPPCL’s 2024-2025 business plan, which focuses on upgrading the city’s power infrastructure to ensure better reliability and minimize future power disruptions.
The maintenance involves replacing outdated 11 kV vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) panels at the Sector 124 substation. The current panels have been identified as outdated and susceptible to breakdowns, which could disrupt power supply. Harish Bansal, Chief Engineer of Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), explained that these panels are vital for maintaining the overall stability of the power network. "The replacement is essential to prevent any future power failures and to ensure a steady supply," Bansal said, urging residents to prepare for the temporary outage.
The affected areas include some of Noida’s busiest sectors and residential zones: Sectors 94, 95, 124, 125, 126, and the Raipur region. These areas, which house thousands of residents, will experience the power outage for a full 14 hours. The timing of the outage, set during the weekend, is aimed at minimizing disruptions, but it could still inconvenience residents, particularly in areas where daily activities depend on a continuous power supply. The Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONRWA) has raised concerns about the challenges faced by residents who rely on electricity for essential needs.
In addition to the power outage, UPPCL has announced that its consumer portal, uppclonline.com, will be down for technical upgrades from 10 PM on November 16 to 4 AM on November 17. During this time, services like online bill payments, smart meter recharges, and other portal-based transactions will be unavailable. UPPCL has advised consumers to plan in advance for these services to avoid inconvenience. Residents are encouraged to contact UPPCL's helpline for assistance or if they have any concerns about the maintenance work.
