SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured students that the promised money for tablets will be disbursed despite the recent revelations of large-scale corruption in the scheme. Speaking to journalists at Bagdogra Airport on Friday, the Chief Minister addressed the growing concerns surrounding the embezzlement case, which has left many students without their allocated funds.
"There is corruption across the country," Banerjee said, noting that such fraudulent activities have also plagued other states like Maharashtra and Rajasthan. "This group has now set foot in Bengal, but we are vigilant. Our administration is very strong, and we are taking strict action."
Banerjee highlighted that some individuals have already been arrested, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate and apprehend those involved. She emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring transparency and bringing culprits to justice.
In her assurance to students, Mamata Banerjee said, "Those who did not receive the tablet money will get it soon." She expressed confidence in the administrative measures taken to address the issue and restore trust in the system.
During her interaction, the Chief Minister also paid tribute to the birth anniversaries of tribal leader Birsa Munda and Sikh spiritual leader Guru Nanak. Standing at the airport, she bowed in their honor, acknowledging their contributions.
Banerjee was returning to Kolkata after a four-day tour of North Bengal, which she described as highly productive. "The visit to the hills went very well. I will come here again," she remarked.
