Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for a series of ambitious development projects in Bihar, totaling Rs 12,100 crore. These projects span across key sectors, including healthcare, transportation, infrastructure, and energy. The focus of the inauguration was on improving the state’s connectivity, enhancing the healthcare system, and supporting local industries. A significant highlight of the event was the launch of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga, which will provide advanced medical facilities for the people of Bihar and neighboring regions.
The AIIMS Darbhanga project, with a total investment of over Rs 1,260 crore, marks a significant milestone in Bihar’s healthcare infrastructure. This new medical facility will comprise a super-specialty hospital, nursing and medical colleges, residential accommodation for medical staff, and an AYUSH block. The AIIMS Darbhanga hospital is expected to greatly reduce the need for people to travel out of the state for advanced medical care, which has been a long-standing challenge for Bihar’s residents. The facility will also have a significant educational impact, offering training for medical professionals in a region that has been underserved in terms of high-quality healthcare services.
In the transportation sector, PM Modi inaugurated multiple National Highway projects aimed at boosting connectivity and reducing travel times in Bihar. The total investment in National Highway infrastructure was Rs 5,070 crore. Key projects include the Galgalia-Araria section of NH-327E, which has been upgraded to a four-lane highway, providing a direct route from Araria (on the East-West Corridor, NH-27) to West Bengal. Other National Highway projects laid the foundation for upgrades to two-lane roads, such as the Ramnagar-Rosera stretch and the Bihar-West Bengal border to Manihari road (NH-131A). These infrastructure developments are expected to ease traffic congestion, improve safety on major routes, and facilitate smoother trade and transport within Bihar and its neighboring states.
In the railway sector, PM Modi launched railway projects worth Rs 1,740 crore, further enhancing the state’s connectivity. One of the prominent projects is the Sonenagar Bypass Railway Line, which connects Chiralapothu to Bagha Bishunpur. This bypass will help decongest the Aurangabad district’s railway network and improve the movement of goods and passengers in the region. Additionally, PM Modi flagged off the new Jhanjharpur-Laukaha Bazar train service, and launched Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) services on the Jhanjharpur route, which will improve passenger transport and reduce travel times.
In the energy and public services sector, PM Modi also laid the foundation for a City Gas Distribution (CGD) network across five districts of Bihar. This project, valued at Rs 1,250 crore, will provide piped natural gas to households and industries, contributing to cleaner energy access and fostering industrial growth. Alongside these initiatives, PM Modi inaugurated 18 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras across India, providing affordable medicines to railway passengers. These centers aim to make healthcare more accessible to people in rural and remote areas. These newly inaugurated projects are a part of a broader vision to modernize Bihar’s infrastructure, improve access to essential services like healthcare and energy, and provide better job opportunities in the region.
