Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
Nabanna, the West Bengal state secretariat, has directed officials to address the recurring issue of waterlogging in the Haldiram-Chinar Park area on VIP Road. Frequent water accumulation here, especially after heavy rains, has led to serious travel disruptions, affecting residents and passengers heading to the Kolkata airport. Reports indicate that some travelers have even missed flights due to road blockages caused by waterlogging.
Sources from the district administration in North 24 Parganas indicate that a meeting with relevant administrative bodies is imminent. This meeting will likely include representatives from Bidhannagar Municipality, Kolkata Airport, and other associated organizations, to identify coordinated solutions to the drainage problem. During a recent Airport Environment Committee meeting, headed by a senior Nabanna official, waterlogging was highlighted as a priority concern.
The Bidhannagar Municipality has noted that excess water from the airport and surrounding areas flows through the township, exacerbating the problem. While drainage improvements have been made, the situation persists in areas like Haldiram, particularly following heavy rain.
To find a long-term solution, Nabanna has instructed the formation of a committee involving all related agencies under the guidance of the District Magistrate. The committee’s goal will be to collaborate with stakeholders, including the Public Works Department and Railway Bikash Nigam Limited (RVNL), whose Garia-Airport Metro project construction may be impacting the area’s drainage.
