Anand Sarkar, a 45-year-old resident of the Nakudaha area in Itinda Panitara Gram Panchayat, Basirhat, was shot dead on Monday evening in a brutal attack. Sarkar, who was at his home at the time, was called outside by a group of individuals. Once he stepped out, he was led to a nearby field where the assailants shot him and then attacked him with a sharp weapon. After the assault, the assailants fled the scene, leaving Sarkar in a critical condition.
Local residents, upon hearing the gunshots, rushed to the scene and found Sarkar lying in a pool of blood. They immediately transported him to Basirhat Super Specialty Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Sarkar was declared dead upon arrival. The victim had sustained gunshot wounds and severe injuries from the sharp weapon. Hospital sources confirmed that the injuries were fatal and that he was beyond help by the time he arrived.
Police were notified shortly after the incident, and investigations began immediately. Initial reports suggest that the attackers were familiar to Sarkar, as he stepped outside without any signs of distress. Law enforcement officials are exploring various angles, including possible personal enmities or disputes, though no clear motive has emerged. The police are collecting evidence from the crime scene and questioning potential witnesses. At present, no arrests have been made, and the investigation continues as authorities work to identify the perpetrators and establish the motive behind the killing.
