Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Member of Parliament for Diamond Harbour, has been formally invited by the Norwegian government to participate in a high-level knowledge exchange program focused on gender equality and women empowerment. The invitation, extended through a letter from the Norwegian ambassador and the UN Women country representative, will see Banerjee visiting Norway from November 17 to November 22, 2024. The program aims to provide a platform for dialogue and learning about Norway’s gender equality policies and the country’s success in empowering women.
The program will offer Banerjee an opportunity to meet with members of the Norwegian Parliament, policymakers, academics, business leaders, and representatives of various gender-focused organizations. These interactions will take place at key institutions in Norway, including government agencies and universities, to discuss their institutional frameworks, policies, and programs that have significantly contributed to gender equality and women’s empowerment. As part of the program, Banerjee will also gain exposure to various Norwegian initiatives aimed at creating equal opportunities for women across sectors.
Key topics of discussion during the exchange will include Norway’s policies on gender-inclusive governance, workplace equality, and women’s representation in leadership roles. The program will also highlight Norway’s work in eliminating gender-based violence, improving access to healthcare, and promoting economic empowerment for women. The knowledge-sharing aspect of the program is designed to help participants understand how these policies have been implemented and their impact on gender equality outcomes in Norway, with a focus on replicating successful models in other countries.
