A case of rape and murder has been reported from the Canning Bazar area, where 48-year-old woman was found dead after allegedly being assaulted by a man with whom she was in an extramarital relationship. The victim, a resident of Gobramari village in Daria Panchayat, lived separately from her husband, who works in the Andaman Islands. According to local sources, the victim had been involved with a local man, Mohsin Molla, for the past three years. On Friday, The victim was taken by Mohsin to a residential lodge in Canning, where the incident occurred.
Reports state that the victim fell ill during her stay at the lodge. Mohsin then took her to a nearby doctor’s clinic, where she was declared dead. Upon confirming her death, Mohsin fled the scene, leaving the doctor and the lodge staff behind. The doctor immediately contacted the Canning Police Station, informing them of the incident. Police officers arrived at the scene, and the body was sent for post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
Following a complaint from The victim’s family, the police filed a case of rape and murder against Mohsin Molla. The police investigation began with questioning lodge staff and reviewing CCTV footage from the lodge and surrounding areas to gather evidence. The investigation also includes tracing Mohsin’s whereabouts, as he remains missing. The police have yet to confirm the exact cause of death, which will be determined after the post-mortem report is received.
The Canning Police, along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), have intensified the investigation, with efforts focused on locating the accused. Authorities are also examining the role of the lodge staff and their actions during the incident. The police are investigating whether the staff was aware of the victim’s condition and whether any further actions were taken before she was taken to the doctor’s clinic.
