CBI uncovers deleted phone recordings, videos in RG Kar case

In a major development in the RG Kar medical student rape and murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has unearthed a series of deleted phone call recordings that shed light on efforts to conceal critical information. The CBI has identified missing phone call recordings from both Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and former OC of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal. These recordings were allegedly erased in a deliberate attempt to hide evidence.

According to CBI sources, all the missing phone conversations were initially recorded automatically due to the auto-call recording feature enabled on Abhijit Mondal's phone. Investigators have revealed that, on the day of the incident, Sandip Ghosh issued several instructions to Abhijit Mondal. These vital conversations were all deleted from the phone in what the CBI claims was a coordinated effort to prevent the truth from coming to light.

However, thanks to forensic analysis, the CBI successfully recovered the deleted phone conversations, revealing crucial information that could implicate both Ghosh and Mondal in attempts to cover up the incident. Along with the phone records, the CBI also discovered video footage of the incident on both Ghosh's and Mondal's mobile phones, further deepening suspicions of a deliberate cover-up. These videos and call recordings are expected to play a key role in the ongoing investigation.

The CBI has filed for 14 days of jail custody for both Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal, asserting that both individuals had made several phone calls from the morning of August 9, the day of the tragic incident, to orchestrate the concealment of the crime. The investigation is currently focusing on identifying who was contacted during these calls and whether any further attempts were made to hide critical evidence.

In another unrelated but equally troubling case, investigations into the disappearance of government funds under schemes like Lakshmi Bhandar and old age allowances have uncovered more sensational details. The state police traced accounts in East Burdwan and East Medinipur where these funds had been misappropriated. Authorities are now reviewing reports from a similar incident in 2022, where two individuals were arrested in connection with the disappearance of tablet distribution funds under the state government's 'Taruner Swapna' scheme. Further investigations are underway to determine how such funds were redirected and whether there was any involvement of officials at the school level.
