Kolkata metro to be extended till Hooghly's Chuchura? Here's what Railway minister says
A controversy erupted after Kolkata Mayor and senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim made objectionable remarks against BJP's female leader by calling her 'Maal'. Although he issued a clarification for these comments, it seems like his party colleague Madan Mitra, a known politician for his 'remarks', backed Hakim.
When asked by media persons about the controversy and complaint against Firhad, Madan Mitra was quick to say that there was nothing wrong with the statement. "BJP to Maal E Aachhe (BJP is a maal)", Mitra said.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul slammed Firhad and said, "It is very shocking and very shameful that TMC minister and very close... so-called the right hand of our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Firhad Hakim has called the women of Bengal 'maal'. 'Maal' is a very cheap, sleazy word... a very disrespectful word towards women and I am sure that not only 'janab' Firhad Hakim, all the MPs, MLAs and the party members of TMC think that the women of Bengal are 'maal', which is 'bhogya vastu'. We are not very shocked 'janab' Firhad Hakim because this is the way your government has been treating us."
This comes after the row in Maharashtra over Shaina NC being called 'imported maal' by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant. Slamming the comments, the BJP-turned-Shiv Sena leader who is contesting the assembly elections set the record straight, saying 'mahila hoon, maal nahi'.
