Man arrested for attempted sexual harassment at multiple homes in East Burdwan village

A man was arrested on Thursday in the Ausgram area of East Burdwan after being accused of attempting sexual harassment at multiple homes in the village. The accused, disguised as a "song performer," was reportedly moving door-to-door, seeking small donations under the pretext of performing for the villagers. His activities were initially brought to light after a 15-year-old girl accused him of inappropriate behavior at her home. According to the girl’s father, the man approached their house around 10:30 AM, asking for water. After receiving the water, he allegedly made inappropriate remarks to the girl and grabbed her hand.

The girl managed to pull away and quickly informed her family of the incident. The family then alerted the villagers, prompting a search for the man. Several other women from the area also came forward, stating that the man had visited their homes and made them uncomfortable with similar advances. It was reported that he had visited at least five homes before being apprehended.

The villagers, after hearing about the incidents, began searching the area and managed to locate the accused in a nearby locality. They detained him and contacted the police, who arrived and arrested the man based on the complaints filed by the girl’s family and other locals. The accused, who was wearing makeup and a performer’s costume, had been using this disguise to blend in and gain access to various households. It is believed that he had been traveling from village to village, using the same tactic to approach women and solicit money.

Police have confirmed that the accused was well-known in the area for posing as a performer and engaging in similar activities in neighboring villages. Officers are investigating whether he has been involved in similar harassment incidents in other regions. The police have also begun questioning the families of the alleged victims to gather further details on his actions. The man has been charged with sexual harassment, and authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of his actions and any possible previous offenses.
