A four-month-old infant's decaying body was discovered in a pond in Talonga village, Murshidabad, on Thursday. The body was found by a group of women who were bathing in the pond. Upon noticing the remains floating, the women immediately alerted the local villagers, who contacted the police. Officers from the Beldanga police station arrived on the scene and recovered the infant's body.
Medical experts confirmed that the child was approximately four months old, but the body had already begun to decompose. Following the recovery, the body was sent for post-mortem at the Kandi sub-divisional hospital. For further examination, the remains were transferred to Baharampur Medical College. The police are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Beldanga police have initiated an investigation into the incident. Authorities are attempting to identify the child’s parents or any individuals involved in the abandonment. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no leads have been confirmed regarding the identity of the person or people responsible for abandoning the infant.
This discovery follows a similar case that occurred in Balurghat on November 5, when a newborn infant was found abandoned in a shopping bag. The child was found by locals, who informed the police, and the infant was later admitted to the hospital for treatment. The police are now investigating both incidents, though no conclusions have been reached. Authorities have called for public assistance in providing any information related to the case.
