A young couple faced a shocking ordeal in Kolkata’s Dum Dum Park area on Tuesday evening when a group of drunken men allegedly taunted and attacked them. They were returning home after tuition when a group of men reportedly began taunting them in an inebriated state. Witnesses say that the girl was pushed by the group, prompting the boy to intervene. The altercation quickly turned violent, with Kaushik also allegedly assaulted.
Following the incident, the boy and his family members visited the local councilor, Biswajit Basak, to seek help. The councilor accompanied them to the Laketown police station, where they filed an official complaint. Based on this complaint, police launched an investigation and soon arrested two individuals from a nearby hotel suspected of involvement in the attack.
The boy’s father voiced concerns about the hotel from which the arrests were made, claiming that illegal activities are regularly carried out on its premises. This sentiment was echoed by Councilor Biswajit Basak, who pointed out that the hotel is owned by BJP leader Amarjit Jhan. Basak alleged that such establishments are often sources of disruptive behavior and unsafe environments for residents.
In a statement, Councilor Basak said, “These young people were just returning home when they were harassed. It’s deeply concerning that such incidents are happening. Two of the accused have been arrested, but we need to ensure such issues don’t arise again.”
