Elder brother found dead in locked room after drinking brawl with younger sibling in Bengal's Gaighata

In the Bada Keshatnagar area of Gaighata, North 24 Parganas, Anshuman Dhali, aged 40, was found dead in a locked room following a night of drinking with his younger brother, Amrit Dhali. The police received a call reporting the discovery of Anshuman’s body on Monday morning. Officers arrived at the scene, where they found the elder brother lying unresponsive on his bed. The police subsequently secured the area and initiated an investigation.

According to the police report, the brothers were reportedly consuming alcohol at home on Sunday evening when an argument broke out between them. During the confrontation, Amrit stated that Anshuman attacked him with a machete. In an act of self-defense, Amrit claimed he struck Anshuman on the head with a stick. After the incident, Amrit did not seek medical attention for Anshuman, believing the injury was not severe. Following the altercation, both brothers returned to their respective rooms to sleep.

When Amrit attempted to wake Anshuman the next morning, he discovered his brother lying on the bed and observed foam coming from his mouth, indicating a possible medical emergency. Concerned for Anshuman's well-being, Amrit immediately contacted local authorities. The police arrived at the scene, examined the situation, and subsequently recovered Anshuman’s body, which was sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Residents in the neighborhood have expressed concern regarding the Dhali brothers' frequent disturbances due to heavy alcohol consumption.
