Whistleblower alleges massive corruption at Murshidabad Medical College; Reports death threats, vandalism

Murshidabad Medical College is currently embroiled in serious allegations of corruption following a formal complaint filed by Apurba Ghosh, a former temporary employee at the institution. Ghosh has accused several high-ranking officials, including the college principal, two assistant superintendents (non-medical), and the owner of a contractor company, of engaging in corrupt practices related to the hiring of personnel and the awarding of contracts within the medical college.

In his allegations, Ghosh asserts that there have been multiple instances of bribery in the recruitment process for security personnel. He claims that fees were demanded from individuals seeking employment as security guards under the pretext of securing positions within the college. Ghosh has indicated that this corrupt practice is not isolated, as he alleges similar irregularities have occurred concerning the operations of canteens within the college, including the AYUSH canteen, where he claims that money was collected by the assistant superintendents.

Ghosh has also reported that his concerns extend to financial mismanagement in the medical college's blood bank and other departments, suggesting that a systemic issue of corruption exists within various administrative levels. He contends that the financial transactions associated with these operations lack proper oversight and accountability.

In response to his allegations, Ghosh has taken formal action by submitting complaints to both the Anti-Corruption Branch and the State Vigilance Department. His complaints include detailed accounts of the alleged corrupt activities, which encompass the collection of bribes from contractor companies involved in running canteens. Ghosh claims that these contractor companies are situated in close proximity to the medical college, specifically within a hundred meters, facilitating potential collusion between contractors and college officials.

Following his decision to report these practices, Ghosh has alleged that he received threats to his safety and experienced vandalism at his residence. He reported these incidents to the Berhampore Police Station, where he sought assistance and protection. Ghosh claims that the intimidation has intensified since he filed his complaints, creating an atmosphere of fear surrounding his efforts to expose the alleged corruption.

As investigations by the Anti-Corruption Branch and the State Vigilance Department begin, the focus will be on gathering evidence to validate Ghosh's claims. The allegations have prompted calls for thorough investigations into the hiring processes and financial dealings within Murshidabad Medical College, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency in healthcare institutions. The administration of Murshidabad Medical College has yet to issue a public statement addressing these allegations, and the outcome of the investigations remains to be seen.
