Kolkata winter: temperature may drop 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next three to four days

The Alipore Meteorological Department has confirmed the impending arrival of winter in Kolkata and its surrounding regions, with significant changes in weather patterns anticipated over the next few days. According to the latest forecasts, temperatures are expected to decline by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, bringing the mercury closer to seasonal averages. Recent temperature readings indicate a maximum of 32.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.3 degrees above the normal range for this time of year, while the minimum temperature has been recorded at 24.6 degrees Celsius, exceeding normal levels by 2 degrees Celsius. This temperature fluctuation marks a shift from the unusually warm conditions experienced in recent weeks.

As the temperature drops, an increase in humidity is expected to lead to foggy mornings across the region. The current maximum humidity level has been recorded at 97 percent, with a minimum humidity level of 51 percent. This high humidity has contributed to discomfort in the atmosphere, particularly during the warmer hours of the day. With the anticipated decrease in temperature, meteorologists predict a reduction in humidity-related discomfort. Additionally, the Alipore Meteorological Department has indicated that the sky over Kolkata will remain mostly dry, with very low chances of rainfall in the districts, allowing residents to enjoy clearer skies.

In South Bengal, several districts are projected to see temperatures nearing normal levels as early as Sunday. Clearer skies are anticipated, which will help in reducing humidity levels throughout the region. The shift to cooler conditions at night and in the early morning hours is expected to provide a welcome change from the warmer days previously experienced. According to meteorological data, the humidity levels are gradually decreasing, which may improve overall comfort levels in the coming days.

In North Bengal, light rain accompanied by thunder is forecasted until Wednesday, particularly affecting districts such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Malda. These areas are expected to receive some precipitation; however, heavy rainfall is not anticipated. The weather office has advised that, after Wednesday, North Bengal is likely to transition to drier conditions by next Thursday. This change aligns with the overall trend of winter approaching, bringing a mix of cold and dry air into the region. As the days progress, residents can expect more stable and comfortable weather patterns, marking the seasonal transition into winter.
