Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
On Friday morning, an accident occurred in East Burdwan district, West Bengal, claiming the lives of four individuals after a collision between two motorcycles and a car on the Kalna-Katwa road. The victims were identified as Arif Sheikh, Abu Mondal, Abu Bakar Siddique Mondal, and Abdukl Silim Mollah, all residents of Samudragarh. They were returning home from a trip to Nabadwip in Nadia district when the tragedy unfolded around 4 AM. Eyewitnesses reported that both motorcycles were traveling at excessive speeds, indicating a lack of control, when they collided head-on with a four-wheeler coming from the opposite direction.
The collision was severe enough to overturn the SUV involved, which subsequently fled the scene. Local police from the Nadanghat police station arrived shortly after the crash, but the four motorcyclists had already succumbed to their injuries by the time they were taken to Kalna Specialty Hospital, where medical staff pronounced them dead upon arrival. The police have initiated an investigation into the accident, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations. Family members of the victims have been informed about the tragic incident.
In addition to the fatalities, a bystander named Padma Das sustained injuries after being struck by one of the motorcycles that lost balance following the collision. She was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the car involved in the crash has been reported missing and is currently being sought by law enforcement as part of their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Community members have raised alarms about the road's safety, highlighting it as a known accident hotspot due to the absence of effective traffic management measures. Residents have criticized the local administration for neglecting to implement safety protocols, such as speed bumps and signage, despite ongoing complaints regarding reckless driving and frequent accidents in the area. Eyewitnesses also voiced their frustrations about the delayed response from police, asserting that despite being notified promptly, officers arrived later than expected, allowing local residents to perform initial rescue efforts.
