A tragic boiler explosion rocked a private chemical factory in Madhyamgram’s Chandi Gori area on Wednesday afternoon, leading to a devastating fire in the facility. The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. within the Dattapukur police station jurisdiction.
The blast set the factory's boiler chamber and an adjoining godown ablaze, tragically injuring three workers on duty. Eyewitnesses report that the explosion was followed by intense flames that quickly engulfed the boiler chamber.
Residents rushed to the factory upon hearing the explosion and helped rescue the injured workers. One worker, unfortunately, succumbed to his burn injuries on the spot. The two others are reported to be in critical condition and were transported to Barasat Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The explosion sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, sparking panic as residents feared for their safety. Madhyamgram fire brigade personnel responded promptly to the emergency call, dispatching three fire engines to the scene. The firefighting team worked to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading further. Despite their efforts, the intense flames and damaged infrastructure made the situation challenging.
