Over 80 organizations unite for justice in R.G. Kar case; Coalition to address investigation failures

Over 80 organizations, including various doctors' associations, civil society groups, and student unions, have united to demand justice in the case involving a doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, who was allegedly raped and murdered. This coalition, known as 'Abhaya Manch,' aims to address serious concerns regarding the investigation's integrity and the safety of medical professionals across West Bengal.

The coalition's formation follows widespread outrage and protests stemming from the tragic incident, which has highlighted systemic issues within the medical community and law enforcement. As part of their advocacy, the coalition has scheduled two significant events: the 'Droh Ka Prakash' campaign on November 4 and the 'Public Charge Sheet' program on November 7.

During a public convention held at R.G. Kar Hospital, junior doctor Kinjal Nanda announced plans for a torch rally on October 30. This rally will commence at the State Medical Council and proceed to the CBI office at CGO Complex, symbolizing the collective demand for justice for the victim and reinforcing the urgency of the situation. Nanda emphasized that the movement would continue until justice is served, indicating the determination of junior doctors to address both the specific case and broader issues impacting their safety.

In response to the ongoing turmoil, a new organization called the 'West Bengal Junior Doctors Association' has been established. This group aims to unite junior doctors in their efforts to secure better working conditions and advocate for the safety of healthcare professionals. They have sent an email to the state’s Chief Secretary, detailing eight key demands, including enhanced security protocols, improved medical facilities, and mental health support for healthcare workers, underscoring the critical need for systemic change within the healthcare system.
