8 arrested in illegal blood transfusion racket at Malda medical college

Authorities have arrested eight suspects in an illegal blood transfusion racket at Malda Medical College and Hospital, with the investigation revealing disturbing details. Superintendent of Police Pradeep Yadav provided an update on Monday, stating that the arrests began in August and have continued as new information comes to light.

The case's first arrest was on August 21, 2024, when police detained Mohammad Alim Sheikh, a resident of Mirchak Bat-Tali, and Khudu Das from Sahapur. Two days later, on August 23, the investigation led to the arrest of Radiul Momin from Atgama, followed by the arrest of Tanbir Iqbal from Raghunathganj on August 25. By August 30, Hamidur Rahman of Sujapur Goysbari had also been apprehended.

In the latest wave of arrests, three additional suspects were detained in late October. These include Darpan Ghosh, alias Nantu, from Malancha Palli, Amit Saha from BS Road, and Supriyo De, alias Chotan Mama, also from Malancha Palli, arrested on October 23, 24, and 26, respectively.

During interrogations, the newly arrested suspects provided the police with valuable insights into other potential individuals involved in the illegal blood transfusion scheme. Authorities are actively investigating this information and verifying the evidence gathered to identify all those associated with the racket. The police have stated their commitment to taking strict action against the culprits involved.
