SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Late Saturday night, the residents of Ward 12 in Cooch Behar's Mathabhanga city were jolted awake by the loud sound of a bomb explosion, sparking fear and chaos across the neighborhood. The unsettling noise left people too shaken to venture outside immediately. However, the anxiety only deepened by morning, as another fresh bomb was discovered at the same location. The double shock has left the community alarmed, and the incident has garnered attention across the district.
The late-night blast disrupted the usually quiet atmosphere of Ward No. 12, a residential area not accustomed to such disturbances. Some residents reported hearing the sound but didn’t observe any unusual activity outside. Early on Sunday morning, residents stumbled upon a newly planted bomb close to the site of the explosion. Authorities were alerted immediately, and the Mathabhanga police quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
Upon arrival, the police recovered both the remnants of the exploded bomb and the newly discovered device. Both items have been taken to the police station for further analysis. Although the police have not released specific details about the type of explosives used, the incident has stirred concerns about public safety.
In response to the alarming incident, Mathabhanga SDPO Samren Halder assured residents that the police had commenced a full investigation. Preliminary inquiries are focusing on possible suspects or motivations, though authorities are yet to identify any leads. Residents are speculating about who might be behind the incident, but so far, no theories have been confirmed.
