Violence over milk supply dispute in Howrah, 10 injured

A violent altercation erupted in Tetulkuli, under the jurisdiction of Domjur police station, when members of a local club clashed with workers of a milk yard over the supply of milk. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, left at least 10 people injured from both sides, with one individual reported to be in critical condition. Even the cattle at the milk yard were not spared in the chaos.

The clash stemmed from a dispute over the supply of milk for a local Annakut ceremony organized during Durga Puja. According to reports, the club had demanded that the milk yard provide a specific quantity of milk for the religious celebration. When the workers were unable to meet this demand, tensions escalated, leading to a violent confrontation.

The milk yard workers have alleged that the club members assaulted them for not supplying the requested amount of milk. In retaliation, a counter-attack was also launched by the milk yard workers, further worsening the situation. During the incident, several individuals sustained injuries, and one person has been hospitalized in critical condition.

Local authorities responded swiftly to the scene, arresting one person in connection with the violence. Investigations are currently underway to determine the full extent of the altercation and whether any additional arrests will be made.

The attack also involved harm to the cattle at the milk yard, further intensifying the tension in the area. The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who are concerned about the rising level of violence over such disputes.

The Annakut ceremony, a traditional event held during Durga Puja, requires large quantities of food, including milk, to be served to devotees. However, the shortage of supply led to this unfortunate confrontation. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment, and the local community is calling for an amicable resolution to prevent further clashes.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, and further updates are expected as they delve deeper into the causes and participants involved in the violent episode.
