Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
TMC MP Mahua Moitra criticized the Noida Police on Sunday following the death of her rescued dog, allegedly caused by continuous firecracker explosions near the animal shelter where the dog was staying. In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Moitra referred to the death as "murder" and called for stricter enforcement of the firecracker ban.
In her post, Moitra stated, "Hello @noidapolice @CP_Noida - one of my rescued rehab babies just died of cardiac arrest at @SmartSanctuary Noida due to explosive non-stop banned firecrackers. This is murder. Can you please enforce the ban? Shameful."
The tragic incident occurred at Smart Sanctuary, an animal shelter in Noida where Moitra’s dog, Guddu, was residing. The constant sound of firecrackers reportedly caused the dog to suffer a cardiac arrest. Moitra urged the authorities to take immediate action to enforce the existing ban on firecrackers, highlighting the harmful effects on animals.
Kaveri Rana, the owner of Smart Sanctuary, responded to the growing concerns from netizens and provided more details about the incident. She confirmed that the dog’s death was due to a cardiac arrest caused by the stress of continuous firecracker explosions. Rana explained, "I was right there when a string of loud crackers burst non-stop, causing our Guddu to go into hyperventilation till he gave up. Rest of my rescues are hiding, shivering, & have been advised anti-anxiety meds to prevent mishaps."
Rana also pointed out that many street animals are already in distress due to firecrackers, and the situation is expected to worsen as Diwali approaches. She shared that the remaining rescued animals at the shelter are in a fragile state, hiding in fear, and are being given anti-anxiety medications to prevent further harm.
