Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
Police arrested Zulfikar Ali, also known as Bhuttu, the Congress zone president of Choya Gram Panchayat, for possessing fake currency notes. Bhuttu, a resident of Nazirpur village in Hariharpara, Murshidabad, was caught on Thursday afternoon after police acted on a tip-off from a secret source. He was arrested from the Kashimnagar area of Miya Bagan in Hariharpara, sparking widespread reactions in the local political circles.
When police searched the accused, they recovered 40 fake 500-rupee notes from him. The incident has raised questions about the extent of illegal activities in the region and the involvement of political figures in such crimes. Bhuttu’s arrest marks a significant development, especially as he holds a leadership position in the local Congress party.
Police sources have revealed that Bhuttu’s criminal involvement goes beyond the fake currency racket. He was also indirectly linked to the murder of Sanatan Ghosh, a Trinamool worker from Hariharpara village, on the night of June 9. Investigators suspect that Bhuttu was involved in the murder due to his greed for money, although his exact role in the case is still being probed.
Following his arrest, the police of Hariharpara police station have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. Bhuttu was produced in court on Friday, with police seeking 10 days of custody to further interrogate him and uncover more details about his alleged involvement in both the fake currency operation and the murder case. The court's decision on his custody will play a key role in progressing the investigation.
