Technical glitch disrupts Kolkata metro services on blue line, leaves passengers stranded

On Tuesday morning, passengers on the Kolkata Metro experienced significant disruption due to a technical glitch affecting the Blue Line. The service interruption began around 8:45 AM, impacting the crucial segment between Dakshineswar and Girish Park stations. Commuters faced a frustrating wait, as metro services did not resume until approximately 9:50 AM, leaving many stranded during the peak travel hours.

During the outage, a large number of passengers gathered at Dum Dum and Dakshineswar stations, where they encountered lengthy delays. Some commuters attempted to use alternative modes of transportation, such as taxis and auto-rickshaws, to reach their destinations. Despite the chaos on the Blue Line, services from Girish Park to Kabir Suman station continued without interruption, offering a partial solution for those traveling in that direction.

Metro authorities acted swiftly by informing passengers at various stations about the technical issues causing the disruption. Passengers were notified that the service between Dakshineswar and Girish Park was temporarily unavailable due to ongoing technical difficulties. However, the administration did not provide a clear timeline for when the service would return to normal, leaving many passengers in a state of uncertainty.

Further investigation revealed that the disruption was caused by a power supply issue involving the 750-volt line between Dum Dum and Noapara stations. This specific power failure resulted in a complete halt of metro operations in the affected section, raising concerns about the reliability of the electrical infrastructure supporting the metro system.

The service disruptions come just one day after another significant incident on Monday when metro services were halted for about half an hour between Central and Dum Dum stations. That interruption was linked to a tragic suicide attempt at Shobhabazar-Sutanuti station, requiring a temporary shutdown of power in that area.
