SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
A minor girl who had been missing for three months from Haryana has been successfully recovered by police in Bhargama, Araria. The Haryana police coordinated with local authorities in Bihar to locate her and ensure her safe return to her family.
The girl, a 15-year-old resident of Rohtak, was working alongside her father, Hiralal Kushwaha, in a local factory. During their time in Haryana, she reportedly developed a romantic relationship with Sunny Kumar, the son of Vinod Yadav, a resident of Raghunathpur North in the Bhargama block. Three months ago, Sunny Kumar allegedly lured the girl away with promises of love and a better life, leading to her disappearance and prompting a frantic search by her family.
After extensive efforts to locate her, Hiralal Kushwaha filed a missing person report at the Rohtak police station on September 10. The investigating officer, ASI Nirmala, utilized advanced technical resources, including tracking data and digital footprints, to pinpoint the girl’s location in Raghunathpur North, Araria district.
The Rohtak police formed a specialized team, including ASI Nirmala and ASI Sohanlal, and collaborated with local police forces, including Bhargama station chief Rakesh Kumar. On October 13, they successfully recovered the minor girl from Sunny Kumar’s residence in Raghunathpur North. However, upon the arrival of law enforcement, the accused managed to escape through the back door, evading arrest.
Authorities confirmed that the recovered girl was safely handed over to the Haryana police, who are now making arrangements for her reunification with her family. ASI Nirmala stated that further investigations are ongoing to locate Sunny Kumar and ensure he faces legal consequences for his actions. The case has been registered under FIR number 219/24, invoking relevant sections of the law, including provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, to address the seriousness of the situation.
