Railway cancels several trains in Sealdah division on December 28-29
Taking advantage of the festivities surrounding Durga Puja, thieves executed a major robbery in Jagatballabpur, Howrah, looting valuables worth several lakhs. According to the police, the theft occurred at the residence of local gold trader Ganesh Mandal on Sunday night when he was out with his family for Durga Puja celebrations. The house was left unguarded, providing the perfect opportunity for the miscreants to strike.
The thieves managed to steal gold jewelry worth approximately ₹6 lakh, in addition to cash and other valuables. The incident has left the residents of Mandal Pada shocked and frustrated, as the area has reportedly been the site of several thefts in recent months. Locals allege that despite repeated complaints, police indifference has allowed such crimes to continue unchecked.
CCTV footage obtained by the police has revealed that two individuals entered Mandal’s house to carry out the theft, while two others stood guard outside on the road. The footage is currently being analyzed by the Jagatballabpur police, who are investigating the case and have promised swift action.
Despite assurances, the repeated incidents of theft have raised concerns among residents about their safety during the festive season. Many have demanded increased patrolling and stricter law enforcement to prevent further crimes.
