Around 11:30 AM on Sunday, a disturbing incident occurred at a petrol pump near the old post office in Maheshtala, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. A group of three criminals arrived on a bike, filled their vehicle with petrol, and then accused the pump staff of mixing water with the fuel. The situation quickly escalated as the criminals threatened the employees, warning them of arson and looting if their demands were not met.
The threat of violence sent shockwaves through the petrol pump, creating a tense atmosphere for both customers and staff. In response to the alarming situation, the employees alerted the local police. The Maheshtala police swiftly arrived at the scene, accompanied by Ramesh Mallik, the owner of the petrol pump. Together, they inspected each petrol machine using funnels to confirm that the fuel was pure and contained no water.
Further investigation revealed that the main accuser had a sticker on his motorcycle that identified him as a police officer from Kalitala Ashuti police station. However, it was later confirmed that he was not an officer. The Maheshtala police detained him for questioning, while the other two criminals managed to flee the scene. As of now, the motive behind this unusual incident remains unclear, raising concerns about the safety of local businesses.
