Babul Supriyo and Justice Ganguly's heated exchange on 2nd Hooghly bridge
On Dashami night, gold ornaments and cash worth lakhs were stolen from the home of Biman Majumder in Konnagar's Chakrashree area. The thieves broke in by prying open a window grill and then forced their way into a cupboard locker, showcasing a boldness that has left the community shaken.
CCTV footage from a nearby house recorded two young men entering Majumder's residence during the incident. Despite the surveillance in place, the thieves managed to escape without being apprehended. This brazen act of theft has heightened concerns about safety and security among local residents.
Biman Majumder and fellow community member Apu Ghosh expressed their alarm over the rising number of thefts and snatchings in Konnagar. Majumder remarked, “Theft and snatching have increased in Konnagar recently. Our houses cannot be left empty, and social work is on the rise, yet the police seem indifferent.” Ghosh echoed these sentiments, highlighting a growing unease in the neighborhood.
In response to the escalating crime rate, the Chandannagar police had earlier implemented security measures, deploying pink mobile and green winners teams to monitor the area ahead of the Puja festivities. However, this recent theft raises questions about the effectiveness of these initiatives and why they did not prevent the incident.
